Why Do People Put Their Egos at the Center Stage All the Time?
I don’t know, I can only guess. In my humble view, the core problem is that many people can’t let go.
In a well-developed society, people fight for causes, not for personal benefits.
And in a volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous world, fighting for causes always involves talking to many different people and organizations, and trying to get as many players as possible on board for the common cause.
One for all, all for one.
That’s the unofficial motto of Switzerland, my home country. This saying is even engraved in the central dome of our Federal Palace.
Being a nation of will, we take every possible opportunity to tell the world that maybe our decisions take a little longer, but that we cherish the compromise and the democratic decision-making processes, both on a federal and a communal level.
So far so good.
We don’t have to resort to Trumpism, we have our own narcissists that jeopardize our society and prevent progress. How do I know? I’m engaged at a communal level — a seemingly inglorious domain to put your ego at the center stage, but some people still do.
